Raising Food Allergy Awareness During FARE Teal Pumpkin Project 2025

Halloween is a time of fun, costumes, and neighborhood traditions—but for children with food allergies, it can also bring added stress and risk. That’s where the Teal Pumpkin Project, a nationwide initiative from Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), comes in. Now in 2025, this project continues to grow, spreading awareness and making Halloween safer and more inclusive for everyone.

What Is the Teal Pumpkin Project?

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a simple but powerful idea: place a teal-colored pumpkin outside your home to signal that you are offering non-food treats for trick-or-treaters. This helps families know which houses have safe alternatives for children with food allergies, intolerances, or other dietary restrictions.

Why It Matters

1 in 13 children in the U.S. lives with a food allergy. That’s roughly two kids in every classroom.

Common allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, milk, and eggs are found in many popular Halloween candies.

Food allergies can cause severe and life-threatening reactions, making it essential to create safe spaces for all children.

How Can I Participate In 2025?

Teal Pumpkin Project 2025  Paint or Display a Teal Pumpkin – Place it on your porch to show you support the initiative.

Teal Pumpkin Project 2025  Get On The Map – Add your address to the Teal Pumpkin Project Map, so kids looking for non-food treats can plan their routes.

Teal Pumpkin Project 2025  Offer Non-Food Treats – Stock up on small items like glow sticks, stickers, bubbles, pencils, or temporary tattoos.

Teal Pumpkin Project 2025  Spread the Word – Share the meaning of your teal pumpkin with neighbors, schools, and community groups to help raise awareness.

Teal Pumpkin Project 2025  Use Separate Candy Bowls – If you still want to hand out traditional treats, simply keep them in a separate bowl from the non-food items.

By joining the Teal Pumpkin Project in 2025, you’re doing more than handing out safe treats—you’re helping build a culture of awareness, compassion, and inclusion. Something as small as a teal pumpkin can make a big difference in a child’s Halloween experience, letting them know they’re seen, valued, and safe in their community.

This October, let’s come together to make sure every child can celebrate Halloween without fear. Put out your teal pumpkin, share the message, and help raise food allergy awareness one doorstep at a time.
